The Blob (1988)

The Blob (1958) was “meh.”  What the remake gains in gore it loses in charm.  There are a few obvious but endearing bits that poke fun at a podunk town and a generation gap (Frank Darabont co-wrote the script).  Still, the movie was a tired excuse for Hollywood to tap into the horror market aimed at adolescents (pre-CGI).  Care about the characters you don’t.  Laugh at the gruesome deaths (some of which smack of Troma) you do.  Verdict:  A substandard geek show.
